DOLOMITENMANN TROPHIES
BY SCULPTOR GEROLD LEITNER

The first thoughts when I sketched some time ago went in the direction of a ball that should stand as a symbol of the earth, since this competition is considered the toughest team competition in the world.

After a while this draft came into being because I was using crayons and watercolors on paper. One of the 4 sports protrudes from the openwork ball, which is indicated in my style. Already when I was designing, I thought of the material bronze because it exudes elegance and is also suitable for this work.

As is customary for me, I portrayed the four sports in a very filigree and dynamic way, as they should exude strength, speed, elegance and concentration. A winner should have these elements. Another characteristic is that all 4 athletes are sparsely dressed, because in top-class sport it is primarily up to their own bodies whether a duel can be won or not. The material things are pushed into the background.

This work is created in my studio in Prägraten and Virgen in East Tyrol and is made by me from the design to the finished sculpture with attention to detail. It is therefore very similar to the competition, which has secured a reputation authentically and regionally for years.
